Bit relaxing

Since I did almost all paper work I had to do yesterday, today was pretty pleasant. First thing was to do the remaining paper work  ( I better should say plastic work) in form of picking up my developed 120 film from the photo store.  it was pretty much what I expected, just sadly, to many lost shots with the 90mm, wish I would have opened that before the trip.

While I was in the city, Gervin called, with such a nice weather, he left work earlier and was heading for a cycle trip. Since cycling alone isn’t as much fun as with someone else, I decided to join him there.  It was the  usuall trip to the Spintik Lakes, but I decided to head on and went down the mountain on the other side. On my way down, I ran into another photographer who was on the hunt for some mushrooms.

Not surprising recently, it was another Nikon photographer, with a nice D700 and a 105 macro lens. He went quite far from St. Veit for some photos, but since some years ago he worked in that area, he still remember some nice spots to visit. We talked a bit, exchanged addresses and then I headed again for the lakeside. I was planning to take a pano down there, I and wanted to arrive before the sun sets behind the trees.

As usual when I plan to take a pano, there is a building site, or at least some bright yellow heavy machinery nearby to spoil everything. Luckily, I were able to hide them on the pano, so it was no problem after all. Or at least I hope so, the pano made some troubles and so i don’t know yet. After the pano, I packed my gear and headed home, it was starting to get late and I wanted to cycle in the dark with no extra lights.

Back home then it was time to scan the film and start developing today’s shots. While scanning the lovely sized 6×7 film strips, I once again noticed the greatness of my ancient Agfa DuoScan HiD. And I noticed that even when the 50mm on the RB67 behaves like a 24mm, the depth of field isn’t nearly as big, specially when you have some ground close to the lens. Next time – tripod and stop down to 11. Hopefully that will help. Nevertheless, the scans of the photos that made it look nice, can’t wait for the next roll tomorrow.

The digital RAW’s on the other hand didn’t give me any problems in that direction, but Autopano did later. A new version came out today, with a tiny change in the way layers are handled, and as a result of that, I have now 3 bracketed layers that pretty much look exactly the same, despite the fact that they were taken with a +- 1,5 stop exposure. Looks like I have to re render the panorama tomorrow, but since it looks good besides that, I should have no troubles publishing that tomorrow. So wait for tomorrows post to enjoy a nice new pano.

Beautiful place. I love the little Fungus picture, nice and moody.

Lovely photos! Were those taken with the Mamiya?
What resolution can you get out of your scans?
