The big City, part 2

Nice night on the couch, got up around 10pm, so the couch wasn’t bad. After a short breakfast (Melly made some great cookies some time ago) we went out to visit Schwani, he invited us for lunch.

He made some cannelloni with some self made sauce, hes moving home soon and had to use up all the food he has in Vienna. He was afraid first that it won’t be enough for the 3 of us, but then it was way to much for us. Stuffed as we were, we needed a short walk, so we went to the flat I thought I will use in Vienna to pick up the drinks I bought on the day I arrived. Since I went to Melly that day, I left the stuff there, way to much to carry on that day. Today with the public transport ticket, it was much easier.

So after the long lunch and the water-transport thing, it got pretty late, so no time for shopping trips today. Still, Michi and I decided to take the cameras to the city, just for a “short” trip, to see where some stores are and other stuff. Also found some nice places that I hopefully will turn into a pano today :)

Michi took the photo for today, will be published once I got back.

First day in the big City

First half of the day was spend at train, from 9 to 13o clock I was driving to vienna. Weather was pretty nice, so i decided to walk to “my” flat, around 10 km. After a short rest and some cleanup, I went to the city, taking some photos and planned to meet up with Michi and the otheers.

In the city, i called him, asking for directions, when we agreed on meeting at the Express, a bar where Melly (his and now my host in Vienna)  gave Salsa lesons. I went home, getting ready and buy some stuf to drink (mineral water and lemon juice). When getting home, I got the big surprise. I wasn’t alone in the flat, someone else was allready there. Looks like somone double booked it. Very bad for me.

Thanks to Melly, I found shelter in her flat. I allready planned on staying the last here, but now it looks like it will be more.  Holidays in Vienna are always interessting ;P Photos will be added once I’m back.

Back at university

After a nice vacation, it was back to normal again.Day started with the class about conflict research, today there was a presentation about the conflict situation of the Balkan area.  The group who made the presentation had their laptop already hooked up to the video projector, showing the Desktop with a middle earth map wallpaper. First thing the prof sayed when he came in was asking “Is this the Balkan area?”

After class, we went to the vet again to get Jack checked up, things look quite good for him right now. We also got the results for the samples they send to the lab earlier that week. Looks he was quite on the edge that time. The vet said when she would have known the results earlier, she would have suggested that we put him to sleep. Looks he had luck this time.

After that, I met up with the guys who make holiview.com , a tourist portal with panos and such stuff. We talked about some stuff there, specially how we both could benefit from each other there. Things look like I will take a VR of the soccer stadium soon :) Also, with them as a base, I can start to become a pro panographer :)

Btw, panos I added the Porec panos to panotopia today, check them out on panotopia.org

Hope you like them ;)

2nd Day in Croatia

At least when you get up as early as you would at home, you notice that going on a vacation is hardly as relaxing as it should be. I forget to take breakfast photos today, but since this won’t be the last breakfast, I will take some new ones soon.

We went to Porec today, the next big city here, mostly for a city trip and also to do some shopping. I went looking for a halfway decent photostore, but the only one that looked a bit promising was closed today, so we will try again tomorrow. Anyhow, we went thru the city for some photos, (and shopping), sadly once we went up the church tower (took a pano there of course), it started to rain. Not much, but enough for us. Since most of the stores were closed today to, we went back thru Funtana towards Vsar.

Not far away from Porec, but the weather was much better over there. No blue sky and so, but no rain and the clouds were much less dense there. It was around noon then already, so we started to look for a nice restaurant for lunch. We walked around Vsar for one, but no luck. Instead, we walked around the harbor in Vsar and looked the the quite impressive (and less impressive) ships there.

We went towards Funtana, and visited the same restaurant as yesterday. Food was great again, and finally some decent sized plates too, as you can see.

While we were eating, it started to rain, so we went back to the hotel then and headed straight towards to the pool. We were wet anyway, so why not just enjoy it too. We finally found something to throw around, and since we also were the only people mad enough to go swimming during rain, we had the whole pool just for us.

After playing in the pool, dry again, we headed towards Porec again, primary for shopping, but also for some further exploring and photo taking. I took the Bessa with me today, and the first roll of APX has just a handful of photos left. Should take much longer.

The Olympus battery was empty, so I put it into the charger during dinner time (so no photos of that either). But it was quite good, and we keeped mixing the stuff together, so far they didn’t mind. Hope it stays that way.

Also got various news from home that a newspaper article about me was published today, and so far quite a lot of response. Pretty cool, eh? :D

Getting ready for the trip

First order of the day was to get to the vet again with Jack, to see if hes getting better. Hes still pretty wrecked, but things are looking good for him now. Just my cat acts all strange now and hides all the time. I guess hes afraid he might be next.

Otherwise, it was about to get ready for tomorrow. I agreed to another family trip (they needed someone to drive them there), we (father + brother + me) are going to Funtana, Croatia tomorrow. For those who have no idea where that is, I’m at the blue marker right now and we have to get to the red marker.

And for that, today was spend in the city shopping for stuff that i (might) need down there. Should come back with plenty of photos when the weather stay better then the forecast say. There was quite a lot going on in the city too, so staying here would been fun, I guess. Hope I don’t miss to much. I also found this really cool add for chocolate, check it out.

The evening was time for packing and prepairing stuff. As usuall, I took cloths only to fill the space between my gear. Also; i had to fix 1-2 things for it. Hope everything will work fine.

What I know the hotel we stay has no WLAN, but I will try to find a open Hotspot to post a new entry tomorrow. Can’t promise anything, but wish me luck. Otherwise, I will be back on Tuesday. And with plenty of photos.
