August 22nd, 2008 — klagenfurt, panos, photography
Quite some news up here, but lets start slow. The Northland outdoor store we have here had a water problem some time ago, and that turned into a renovation sale. Since I was still looking for a not to expensive set to go on fixed rope routes (hope dict.cc was right here), but sadly nothing in my size left. Guess I have to look some other shops.

Cycling to the city
Back home, I started to feed Autopano with some panos, and it looks like I realy picked the only pano to start with that Autopano dosn’t like. I had 2 others that were very much like this one, and a few others that were close, and none of them made as much troubles as the first one.
And the new Pano2VR is realy great, made everything much easier. Here are 2 for today. You might have noticed the poll on the right, have 7 panos left, tell how many you want each day

While Autopano was rendering the panos, I decided to go to the city, testing my 20mm in “good” conditions for once. I’m allready quite happy with it in dark bars, lets see how nice it is during daylight. AndI must say, I’m very pleased with it. Also, since Microsoft made Photosynth public, I wanted to give that a try too. Anyone who has Windows and want to give it a try, look here.
More panos tomorrow

Looks like things are now back to normal. Besides some hungry feelings in my stomach from the absence of food the last days, I’m feeling totaly fine again. Was about time.
Sadly, my lab results didn’t made it today, have to wait for tomorrow, but from the way things going, I don’t think there was anything special. Just hope I never have to send anything there thats critical, they sure take their time.
The weather was as great as always the last days, so I went at least for a short walk today. Great to be there again. The weather realy is perfect right now.

I went to a computer store called DiTech today, across the city. Instead of getting a new phone, I decided to use my N770 more often, and for that it needed much more memory, so I got it a 2 GB memory card. 7€ for it wasn’t to bad, considering that the first memory card I bought was a 128MB Smart Media card that cost me over 70€. Half of the 2 gig card is already full of music (from last.fm), other half is reserved for photos, podcast and videos.
In the evening I went to the city, soccer again, Croatia played against Poland in Klagenfurt (not so interesting), and Austria played against Germany in Vienna for the semi finals. Long story short, we lost (how unexpected) and so the European championship 2008 is over for us. It will get very boring now in the city. Today’s photo is a bit delayed, blame KWentin for not sending it to me fast enough.
Update: KWentin send me some photos.
June 12th, 2008 — klagenfurt
2nd big soccer game in Klagenfurt, Germany was playing against Croatia in town, and in Vienna Austria against Poland. Christian and Kwentin (with some of his Couchsurfers) already said they will come to the city too, so I wasn’t alone there. The city was full today, 1 hour before the game even started, the had to close the fanzone in the center, to many people.
Instead, we went to the fairgrounds, but even there were a lot of people celebrating. Anyway, we found a nice place and watched the game (and took photos), with just a light drizzle from above. In the first halftime, we went to the Claddagh, for a nicer place to watch the game. Sadly, they still havn’t got a good signal on the TV there. But better then standing around outside.
Quite surprising, Croatia beat Germany quite well, and with that motivation, Austria started their game. They played extremely well, but somehow they never managed the get the ball in the goal. 3 times they had a near perfect chance to score a goal, but never got it in. Instead, we got one. But in the last minute (literally), we finally got it in and with a 1:1, we still have a change to get into the semi finals. And its our first game for ages we havn’t lost.
With that result, Germany beaten, Croatia the group winner and Austria finally scoring a goal, the city went crazy (in a good way), everyone was doing party. Just the music was starting to get “strange”. Photos come tomorrow, just to damn tired to edit them now.

Happy panoramaic day to you all. Had a quite nice one myself. First was some small VT project in the Lakeside-Park, sort of an carinthian ThinkTank. We made a short tour around it, and thru some offices, for a press conference in a few days. Quite fun. And I also got good ideas for my gigapixel project.
After that, I went into the city once more, but didn’t expect a lot of people there. We don’t have that many people from spain or russia here. But at least I had no problems walking around. I could even take a pano

Click on the sphere to view the flash pano, enjoy.

Today had everything, heavy rain, cloudy skies and from time to time even blue sky and sun. Strange weather. Sure will wetten up the tracks and fan grounds for the EM fan boys :). Lets see if it will end in a mud-wrestling competition too.
In one of those short nice-weather-break I decided to go on Gigapixel-Pano hunt. As Issac requested it, it should be something soccer related. Unsure about the weather, I didn’t want to go up the church tower in the city, so I went to the new stadium instead.
Quite a lot of police and security was around there, still noone asked what the hell I do there. Taking the photos worked quite well, sadly I didn’t put that much attention on it, so quite a few pixels left and right were wasted. And I need a bit more height next time. Megapixel count is around 750MP, not bad, but still 250MP short of my goal. Maybe next time.
Right now, the pano is still uploading, will post it in tomorrows entry. When you can’t wait, check here

Enjoying gigapan.org, I decided to reupload one of the earlier highres panos, just to have it there. And somehow I thought it would by nice to take one more, sadly the weather today wasn’t very electronic-friendly, rain and that stuff. Hopefuly tomorrow will be better so i can take one. Check the allready uploaded ones out here.
As said, weather keeped me pretty much indoors, just could prepair some photo related stuff and work on the blueprints for my new desk. And read some newspapers. Found this clip there. Sorry, german only.
Also, still checking batteries and its horrible how worse they are. brr…..

I had ameeting with some friends from university today, since the class is over we had do diskuss who write what part of the paper we now have to hand in. Everyone got a piece of it to write, my part looks not to hard. Guess I was lucky
After university, I went to the city, wanted to check out how far they have come with the instalations for the EM. Looks all quite impressive, I had the Bessa with me and took quite a few photos.
Right in the middle of the city I saw someone else taking photos too. The chief of Carinthia and the Mayor of the town where both posing for photos, hands full of flags and with tiny
flags painted on their face. Next newspaper (Kärntner Woche, I think) will be fun to read.
Passing further thru the city, flags were everywhere. REALY everywhere. And who didn’t had a nice flag put up whatever they got their hands on. Luckily so far, I havn’t seen any small kids up there.
Also, the experiment from the lake is done. Quite a lot of erros due the wind, but I think I will take a lot more of them now.
May 28th, 2008 — University, klagenfurt, photography
After university today, I wanted to give the gigapixel pano a 2nd try, weather looked quite promising. But when I got home and packed my stuff, the sky was over casted suddenly, and full of haze. As you can guess, I had to skip the photo trip, the weather made it just impossible.
Instead, I keeped cleaning up, but still no sign of the USB stick.
In the afternoon I made everything ready for the theater shooting tonight, the people from the english theater at university asked me if I could take some photos. While getting ready, I noticed that my battery charger for the camera wasn’t working. Good thing the batteries lasted tonight, but who knows how long they will. Crap.
The theater itself was pretty good this time, an “Agatha Christie” play. A murder is announced. Funny as usuall, they have indeed some great actors there. First time also I got a seat reserved for me on such events
After the show, we all met up in the city in the irish pub, not only fir a nice chillout, also christian had his birthday today. And he wanted to play with my 30/1,4 a bit, he will get his soon enough
May 27th, 2008 — klagenfurt
After bringing some books back to university, I waited for a friend to call me when he gets home. His computer wasn’t working right, so he asked if I can take a look on it. I waited, and waited, nothing. I tried to call him, but since that didn’t work either and the weather was great outside, I gave up and went cycling.
With the hot weather and the big trip from weekend in mind, I decided to go for a shorter trip this time, just down viktring and around the nearby lakes. During the trip I also noticed that with the nice scenery now, there is some photo project I could try again
Luckily I was already on my way home when my rear gearshift on my bike started to make problems. I made it home, with the remaining gears. Took some time with the screwdriver, but its now working fine again.
The evening was then dedicated to cleanup. Not because the mess got to bad, but because I still look for my USB stick I lost a few days ago. I first forgot it at my aunt (was getting some photos there), and when I got it back, I instantly lost it. Not sure if it was there or here, but they found nothing now and cleaning up didn’t help either. DAMN.
