My new enlarger
It was time for the Altstadtzauber again, a bit festival in the inner, old part of the city, with a huge flea market that lasts all night long, music concerts and other magic or artist shows. Quite cool stuff.

Flea Market at night
Main even, for me at least, was again the flea market. I was primary looking for some camera equipment, but also other stuff (need another hat, and a new headlight), and also to take some photos. I went with the 30D+20/1.8 (simply love that combo) and headed to the city. I was in for quite some time, exploring the areal. Not much photo related stuff, most interesting camera was a Olympus 35 SP rangefinder, rest was just a lot of Practica and Minolta cameras.
But then I found a rare thing, one of them had a nice, old enlarger there. It was a Durst U 70, quite a old model, but still looking good. Lens is a 105mm, so I might have to get a shorter one, but in case I get a 6×9 camera, I have the right stuff. This now is properly my oldest piece of equipment, they were build first in 1947

Me at the flea market
Later at 3, when I thought about going home, I meet Robert (know him from the medieval games), and we went across the flea market again, taking more photos.
In the evening, I went there again with Gervin, looking for more stuff and also of course, taking more photos. And those will be then edited tomorrow and put on flickr. Stay tuned.
P.S.: With the help of code-guru Ben, my shadowbox works nicely again.
August 22nd, 2008 — klagenfurt, panos, photography
Quite some news up here, but lets start slow. The Northland outdoor store we have here had a water problem some time ago, and that turned into a renovation sale. Since I was still looking for a not to expensive set to go on fixed rope routes (hope dict.cc was right here), but sadly nothing in my size left. Guess I have to look some other shops.

Cycling to the city
Back home, I started to feed Autopano with some panos, and it looks like I realy picked the only pano to start with that Autopano dosn’t like. I had 2 others that were very much like this one, and a few others that were close, and none of them made as much troubles as the first one.
And the new Pano2VR is realy great, made everything much easier. Here are 2 for today. You might have noticed the poll on the right, have 7 panos left, tell how many you want each day

While Autopano was rendering the panos, I decided to go to the city, testing my 20mm in “good” conditions for once. I’m allready quite happy with it in dark bars, lets see how nice it is during daylight. AndI must say, I’m very pleased with it. Also, since Microsoft made Photosynth public, I wanted to give that a try too. Anyone who has Windows and want to give it a try, look here.
More panos tomorrow

Fixing the wire of the phone charger
Weather isn’t sure what to do, today was rather mixed, it sometimes looked a bit like bad weather, but overall it was pretty nice today. Far to nice to sit at home all day, so I went cycling with a friend, to the Spintik lakes. The water up there was pretty cold for summer, gues the last days did their best to cool it down.
Since the weather was ok, but not great, I had some time to sit around at home and look at yesterdays photos, edit them and put them on flickr here for you all to enjoy.
Besides that, not much done today, was a slow day. But on the toher hand, I had plenty of stuff to fix anyway
August 12th, 2008 — B/W Photography
Never plan anything. I planed to go to Salzburg today, taking some photos (and especially some panos), but sadly this plan was postphoned then, because I had to play taxi driver. Weather forecast for that area is bad the next days, so its not very likely I will go there in the next few days.
But now for some good news. All photos are scanned and uploaded to my B/W-Blog under shadowhighlight.wordpress.com
. Well, not everything, taking with Thomas today reminds me of me 2nd film I shot in Vienna, and I forgot to develop that one. Such things always suck. Now I have to take more photos just so I can develope soon again. Also, upload seams to work again.

Weather was kinda mixed again, a week ago I would have said it was nice, but with the last few days, t was just ok. But that wasn’t to bad, since I had a few things today, first playing taxi for my cousin, she needed to get to te train, short holiday in Vienna.
Back home from that, I started something what I actually wanted to do days ago, I finally got my sensor cleaned. And I have to thank Werner again for suggestion the Arctic Butterfly, this thing works just perfect. Now its shiny new again.
Later I went for lunch with my dad and brother, somehow promised them to go with them. Pizza was good too

Taking photos in the city
In the afternoon I went to the city, the biggest bookstore in town had their Book-Market up again. They build up a huge tent on the main sqaure, with hundrets of books to sell, most of them pretty cheap. Even found a cool old geography school book about my place from 1927 (latest date I found in the book). Interessting stuff.
They should get more stuff out tomorrow, so I might gonna check again. And also, I’m very close to finish the roll in the Zorki. Now I just need some rain so I can start developing.

First sorry for the late post, had connection problems last night.

Taking a Pano
Looks like summer is finally back, the weahter is nice and no rain in sight. Impossible to stay inside on such a nice day. I asked some friends, and apparently one agreeded to go cycling. We went the samy path as I yesterday, just extended it a bit to the east, making it 65 km in total.

The Drau
The part along the Drau tooks us abit longer the usuall, no wonder with 2 photographers :). Even had finally a change for one of the 2 panos I wanted to take. Sadly, the dam for the 2nd pano was closed due some maintance work, I guess there were repairing one of the flood gates there. Well, have to go there again soon then
Instead of going right back at the Annabrücke, we followed the cycle path to a small river passing into the Drau, for a short refreshing break. From there then it was straight back to home (including a short apple grapping break).

Where we went
Because of 1-2 more photo breaks on the way back, it got allready quite latethen, so not much left to do, besides editing some photos. But I allready know that I won’t do much more cycling tomorrow
July 24th, 2008 — klagenfurt
The weather was quite nice today first, so I did the best thing you could do (next to go up a mountain) and went off on my bike.
I did the same river side route as last time, but sadly the weather changes, and the blue sky turned into the grey clouds. Not the best weather for photos, specially panos. But in exchange, I found some nice places I will go the next days.
The weather stayed cloudy the whole rest of the day, so I delayed my pano experiment in the city again. Maybe tomorrow. But nevertheless, I went to the city, they have some sort of “Arabic Nights” there now, mostly an excuse for a flea market of the stores to kick their old stuff out. The Foma 200 is almost full, and I really enjoy the extra stop against other 100 films. Can’t wait to develope that one.

Funny thing, you plan to go to a BBQ and suddenly the weather report says a storm is coming up. Not very surprising, or. My uncle invited us all for a BBQ today, sort of his welcome party, and to spread the news that hes now finally moving back to carinthia from Germany.
Food was very good (and way to much), but we were lucky, not long after we finished, the rain started. Not bad, but still enough that we moved inside and I had to skip my pano plans there. Wanted to check out a place for one, it sounded promising, but now I have to wait for clear sky to do so. Hopefully it won’t take to long.
Also, yesterdays images are now on flickr.

Taking the pano
With absolute terrific weather today, we went to the Trögener Klamm, a narrow canyon in the lower part of carinthia, frequent readers might know it already.
Last time, we went into the lower part, today we skipped that and walked on the path to the end of it, and then started straight with the upper part of the Klamm. As said, the weather was just amazing, not a single cloud in the sky and you could have seen for miles. Should been on a mountain instead, but it was quite fine so too. And it was sure colder in the canyon then up the mountain

The river we walked in

The path we walked up
Quite surprising to us, we went with my uncle and his kids today, he phones yesterday if we might want to go, hes going in today. Seams like everyone want to go there on such a nice day. Photos are halfway done, need to finish some tufused
one tomorrow, but besides the sneak previews in here, I can already show you the pano from there. Not perfect, sadly, but I’m still quite happy with it.

Stay tuned for more tomorrow. Then the photos follow.

Again, rain was fore casted and nothing happened. But it was a close call, we had dark clouds all day long, so I would went far away even with good weather forecast. It just looked to much like rain.

Taking photos
Anyway, I refused to sit down here at home all day long, so I at least went to the city a bit, taking the Bessa and some new Foma 200 film to try out. I really want to see how that film performs, should be the perfect daytime action film, with extended evening usability. Just hope it tonal range and grain is fine.

Ugly plastic statue
Weather was as unstable as expected, even got some light drizzle in the city today. So luckily I didn’t went any further away. Also in the city, I finally saw the new replica of the “Wörthersee-Madl”, who according tot he legend created our lake. The original was made of brass, the replica was something like glass fibre reinforced plastic and looked just ugly. Luckily they already promised to bring the old brass one back.
