Back at university

After a nice vacation, it was back to normal again.Day started with the class about conflict research, today there was a presentation about the conflict situation of the Balkan area.  The group who made the presentation had their laptop already hooked up to the video projector, showing the Desktop with a middle earth map wallpaper. First thing the prof sayed when he came in was asking “Is this the Balkan area?”

After class, we went to the vet again to get Jack checked up, things look quite good for him right now. We also got the results for the samples they send to the lab earlier that week. Looks he was quite on the edge that time. The vet said when she would have known the results earlier, she would have suggested that we put him to sleep. Looks he had luck this time.

After that, I met up with the guys who make holiview.com , a tourist portal with panos and such stuff. We talked about some stuff there, specially how we both could benefit from each other there. Things look like I will take a VR of the soccer stadium soon :) Also, with them as a base, I can start to become a pro panographer :)

Btw, panos I added the Porec panos to panotopia today, check them out on panotopia.org

Hope you like them ;)

Day 3 at the Coast

During the night, the sky cleared up, the full moon looked pretty cool. Sadly, it was never in a good position for a photo, just behind the other, boring buildings.

The morning was the nicest one so far, sadly over here, the sun rises not above the sea but right over the restaurant. Not that interesting when you ask me.After a healthy breakfast we were ready for the day. First destination of the day was Porec.

Those narrow streets are indeed very nice, took some panos and quite a few “normal” photos with the digital camera there today. specially the one that I took in the church there looks quite promising. Besides taking photos, I was also looking for some photo stores there, I was hoping that I could get some Efke/Adox films there, since they are made in Croatia too. Since most of them didn’t even know it, I tried the “biggest” photo store in Porec today.

He did eventually know it, but nor had he some in stock, neither he could tell me where to get it. After some email checking (thanks whoever had the their dlink router not secured), we went back towards the hotel. The weather did already get a bit worse, the blue sky was almost gone now, and the first dark clouds shows up over the sea.

We went back to Funtana for our trusted restaurant, they already know us quite well there already, probably because of our strange orders. As usual, the food was excellent there. Really tasty.

After lunch, we went back to the hotel, short break and then off to the pool again. The rain did stop, sadly, so some other people were in the pool too. Luckily, after some time it started to rain again, and the people flee from the pool, and we had it for us only again. Fun ;)

The rain stopped some quite later again, and other people were returning to the pool. So we went out, and after a quick shower to get all the chlorine and salt water out of the hairs, we went forward to explore Vsar, The city there is quite cool, very old and build on a pretty steepy hill. The roads there were even more narrow then the ones in Porec, and everything looked even older. We went up the church tower of Vsar, great look from up there, sadly I went there only with the Bessa, so no digital photos nor panos from the church tower (and that would been a nice one). Still, I could get some pretty cool B/W photos from up there. And one film is full now.

After the church trip, we headed back to he harbor, to drive back to the hotel for dinner time. Dinner was pretty good today, they maybe know it was our last day there. After the dinner, we started to back our stuff, since we were going back to Klagenfurt tomorrow. Just a short trip to the hotel bar for some games of pool, but that was it then for our vacation.

2nd Day in Croatia

At least when you get up as early as you would at home, you notice that going on a vacation is hardly as relaxing as it should be. I forget to take breakfast photos today, but since this won’t be the last breakfast, I will take some new ones soon.

We went to Porec today, the next big city here, mostly for a city trip and also to do some shopping. I went looking for a halfway decent photostore, but the only one that looked a bit promising was closed today, so we will try again tomorrow. Anyhow, we went thru the city for some photos, (and shopping), sadly once we went up the church tower (took a pano there of course), it started to rain. Not much, but enough for us. Since most of the stores were closed today to, we went back thru Funtana towards Vsar.

Not far away from Porec, but the weather was much better over there. No blue sky and so, but no rain and the clouds were much less dense there. It was around noon then already, so we started to look for a nice restaurant for lunch. We walked around Vsar for one, but no luck. Instead, we walked around the harbor in Vsar and looked the the quite impressive (and less impressive) ships there.

We went towards Funtana, and visited the same restaurant as yesterday. Food was great again, and finally some decent sized plates too, as you can see.

While we were eating, it started to rain, so we went back to the hotel then and headed straight towards to the pool. We were wet anyway, so why not just enjoy it too. We finally found something to throw around, and since we also were the only people mad enough to go swimming during rain, we had the whole pool just for us.

After playing in the pool, dry again, we headed towards Porec again, primary for shopping, but also for some further exploring and photo taking. I took the Bessa with me today, and the first roll of APX has just a handful of photos left. Should take much longer.

The Olympus battery was empty, so I put it into the charger during dinner time (so no photos of that either). But it was quite good, and we keeped mixing the stuff together, so far they didn’t mind. Hope it stays that way.

Also got various news from home that a newspaper article about me was published today, and so far quite a lot of response. Pretty cool, eh? :D
